Akash Network proposes leaving its Cosmos chain for Solana

Akash Network's core team has proposed moving the marketplace from its own Cosmos chain to Solana and making AKT a native SPL token. Early governance tallies show about 98% support; the vote closes on 2 November 2026.

On 26 October 2026 the Akash core team published a report and governance proposal (Prop 346) to leave Akash's sovereign Cosmos chain, akashnet-2, and rebuild the marketplace on Solana. According to the Akash blog, nothing changes for live workloads until a separate cutover vote, and no cutover date has been set.

Under the proposal, AKT converts to an SPL token at a 1:1 rate through a one-way migration portal that is planned to stay open for two years. The portal opens only after token and portal audits. The marketplace follows later, after a second governance vote, and existing workloads are planned to keep running for 90 days after cutover.

Early tallies reported by Crypto Briefing showed roughly 98% support. The formal result is due on 2 November 2026, so the proposal has not yet been finally approved at the time of writing.

Akash cites lower costs (median Solana transaction fees of about $0.001) and the DePIN ecosystem on Solana as reasons for the move. The core team also lists what it gives up: sovereign consensus, validator income and native IBC.
